Making Boats in Class!

For New Zealand History we have been learning about what was first bought over to New Zealand on a boat, hundreds of years ago! We have really enjoyed everything we have been learning so far and we have done an amazing inquiry into all sorts of NZ History.

Today, we have started a hands on activity today making boats from our plans. We have been building them and putting together what we think are important to bring on a boat to a new island. We have yet to name the island which we are packing our boats for.. But watch this space! Check out what we did today! How amazing for a first day into it!

Cross Country

Amazing efforts from the entire team in Piako Rua during cross country. We are so proud of everyone for giving it their all. We have been training hard with our fitness and it shows off. Congratulations to everyone. But a massive congratulations to: Harper Manson (First), Evie Morland (Second) and Mele Tu'ipulotu (Third) for the girls and Luke Mayo (First), Mack Moorcarme (Second) and Grayson Woodmass (Third) for the boys. 

Achievement Fridays!

Everyday we celebrate the achievements of our students, but on Friday we hold our own little certificate ceremony to highlight the outstanding learning and self managers we have in Piako Rua. Here are our star students for this week!

Cooking Opt In on Friday

On Friday we made Hokey Pokey Biscuits. They were so delicious! We love getting the chance to get stuck in and roll out our own biscuits! Check out our photos!

Heart Warming Writing

This is why we love our job. These beautiful students practicing their handwriting on our white boards leaving messages which make us smile. Good effort team. We are proud of you! This gives the teachers of Piako Rua warm fuzzies and fills up our cup!

Achievement Awards

As always we are proud of our tamariki for their efforts during school. Here are some stand out stars for a variety of reasons. Keep up the good work team! You are all fantastic!

Piako Rua Fun Friday.

Here are some snaps from the last Fun Friday we had. The kids love using their creativity and opting into things which interest them. Below are some of the kids who made some catapults! We tried a variety of techniques but only one managed to work - so we all built that and had a competition. Was so much fun flinging paper around the room! 

On Friday we also cooked chocolate chip cookies! They were so YUM that Miss Fairbairn didn't even manage to get photos and they were all in our bellies! Here is Jasmine and Ilam with her cookie waiting patiently to go in the oven!

Piako Rua Problem Solvers

Check out these three students having a go at untangling the ladder we use for SMART Moves. It was so amazing to see them working together harmoniously. We have some true leaders in the making. What great problem solving skills. Well done you three!!

 

Fun Friday Opt-Ins

Mrs Palmer enjoyed working with a fabulous bunch of cooks this morning making chocolate muffins!
The classroom smelled delicious by the time they were finished!!
